Joe, in the studio with Gucci sunnies.

This is Joe, we have been friends for 7+ years, we share a passion for bicycles and art and are both pretty left wing when it comes to our political slants. He turned 80 this year and we went on the bus to his favourite Italian restaurant who give you a pen if you finish your meal. We went for lunch and I paid for the meal in 5’s. Tip money I had saved from my serving gig.

I wanted to make a fashion portrait, maybe even a series with this guy but it didn’t work like that with this. It turned out instead exactly as it should. It is just Joe, in a chair with some clothes I asked him to put on and a pair of Gucci sunnies that I found one day in a silk satchel on the street.

It’s hard to describe the details of the connection between Joe and I but maybe I can try. Often when I make food if I have too much I share it with him.

On this day, the portrait taking day when I found him in our meeting spot I could tell that he wasn’t feeling well and I asked him why he didn’t call me and let me know that was the case. His response is always the same, you gotta get going and it’s always good to get outside and ride your bicycle.

Turns out he had saved something I had made him in his fridge and it was now pushing a month old. He ate it the day before and that was what probably. made him sick. He didn’t freeze it or throw it away, he kept it and ate it in turn even if it was a bit on the late side and made his evening one of riding a porcelain bus.

Oh Joe, how I love you so.

Celebrating someone very special to me.

I am a true believer in mentors, if you don’t have one and are pursing your passion-get one. It will change everything, I promise.

This woman was a mentor to me for a year and helped me plan some of the things that have come to life for me in this present moment.

These photos were taken in 2017 before the world went sideways, I had to convince her to get in front of my lens. Benedicte is beautiful from the inside out, a lot of people say that about a lot of people. This one is the real deal and I want to shout from the rooftops my gratitude for having her in my life. She has just turned 40 and I showed up to surprise her, to celebrate with her and most of all to hug her, because we can.

Bonne Fete Mon Amie, J’adore, J’adore, J’adore.

Let's look back at 2021

Wow, what a year eh. So many ups and downs and not knowing what the next few years will bring has made us all a little on edge.

One thing got me through and I want to share it with you because maybe it will help you too. Hope.

I have always had hope, some weird form of faith because of how things have turned out for me, I always have hope. Call it blind faith, call it silly but I managed to pull through this crazy time and come out on the other side with more of it. Strange, I know but that’s me I’m a little eccentric anyway so that’s half the fun of waking up every day for me.

I wanted to recap some highlights from the past year here and maybe it will give you enough juice to take a look at your year and find some of your own for your highlight reel. I would love to see yours too.

I was published in Vogue Italia 8 times.

I began working commercially with brands providing social media content.

I found studio space.

I made a portrait project in Tofino

I created a lookbook of my merch with the help of a magnificent team.

I finished a year-long photo and word project.

And I reached out to you consistently for 52 weeks.

Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it. I wish you and yours a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2022.

Party on the Pavement - Neighbourhood Small Grant.

Are you ready?
Are you free September 6th and will you be in Vancouver for the afternoon?

We will be at Bute Street Plaza, at Davie and Bute on the North Side of Davie celebrating being together again with a temporary community engaged mural.

Come grab a piece of chalk and draw yourself into a scene with your neighbour.

Meet someone new, say Hi, connect and celebrate having some fun and flexing a creative muscle you might not have used since you were a kid. I can’t wait.

Special thanks to the West End BIA and Neighbourhood Small Grants for providing me the resources and venue to create this celebration.

I picked up the chalk today, I have 130 pieces of chalk waiting for you. You can have the piece you use to go and draw on pavement somewhere else too. Or pass it on to a neighbour so they can celebrate too.

Van Gogh, a day dream.

Have you been to see the Van Gogh exhibition yet?

It is meant to make you feel like you are in a daydream and if you ask me that is exactly what it felt like.

I stood slack-jawed for a while and it took about an hour before I realized that it was playing again and I was looking at the same work. I slipped into his world and was completely enveloped by the experience.

I have been celebrating a milestone birthday this week and it has been magic. I am feeling like I am living in my own personal day dream. My friends are making this new chapter for me one full of love, gratitude and connection. The one thing that has come out of this crazy time for me is learning the value of connection. Specifically the connections that serve you, and the ones you can serve in return.

So this blog post is celebrating this wonderful new chapter, with wonderful people in my life filling me up with love and nurturing this weird little beings creativity. Thank you, thank you, and once again I love you.
