Turning a page.

This is work I created a while ago, when I first had the tingling to do editorial photography. These images were inside of me waiting to come out for a long time and some that are similar have found their way into every shoot of mine since then. I just haven’t been posting them.

I have been afraid of change but also so inspired by it too, kind of torn in two and then murals became something for me too. I have always had aspirations of seeing my work big. At first, I was thinking that it would be really big portraits printed and made into light boxes and exhibited at a gallery. That dream is still in the cue, for now, I have found a way to make that dream come true with murals.

I had the opportunity to create a few so far and am so looking forward to making more www.freeadmission.ca

I invite you to come along on this journey with me, as my world turns and the butterflies churn.

A party on the pavement and the West End Journal.

What is it they say about getting published in your local paper?

Big thanks go to the West End Journal for featuring me as an Artist Among Us in their monthly publication.

I won my second neighbourhood small grant and decided to produce a party on the pavement at Davie Street and Bute Plaza. I supplied chalk, hand sanitizer, some fun balloons and had help from a great friend Katie Davis-Sayles.

As people walked by we approached with chalk asking them to come over and draw something. Anything, as long as it was PG and something they wanted to share.

You can find my previous post about it here.

Sad you missed it? I am hoping to make it a yearly event and will continue to apply for Neighbourhood Small Grants to make that happen.

Inspiration

I am constantly inspired by the people I get to work with. Either creatively or at my serving gig.

People inspire me. Does that happen to you?

I love this quote by William Blake, ‘We know each other by our lines’ he wrote that quote after the Book of Ruth for an exhibition he was installing.

We are here because of our connections, the lines are the map to those connections.

The thing is we get trapped in our little worlds and forget about those connections and get resentful that they don’t reach out to us. Well, guess what, it works two ways.

So how are you going to reach out? How are you going to get inspired and re-connect the line?

This series is a result of being inspired and searching for that home for that inspiration until you find it.

When you do find it the feeling is unlike any other because it is usually right in front of your face.

Party on the Pavement, a huge success.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We had a great time and I am so grateful to everyone who came and to the Neighbourhood Small Grants who made this event possible.

Smiles were made, inner artists seeped out, chalk was a vehicle for this event and for the people who choose to take a piece and give it a try.

We stood at Davie and Bute Street at the Rainbow on the sidewalk and handed out chalk to passersby’s and some said yes, some said no, some had fun and some had to go. Katie, a dear friend of mine came out to be with me on the day and I am so happy she was there because she helped me work the crowd and later her son and husband came by to make their drawings too.

Photos can be found here

Here’s to making it a yearly event, I have chalk leftover and some balloons ready too.

They reached out to me after I sent them a marketing package, I’ve been sending them all over town to my favourite brands. They responded to me by giving me a free pair and offering me this amazing coupon code for you too.

Give them a try. I made these quick and dirty selfies of me wearing my brand new pair for the first time with my phone. Better photos to come in these jeans because I know I am going to live in them.

I am wearing the Slim Straight in Indigo wash and they feel like pyjamas. I’m serious, they are that comfortable, I have them belted too and I don’t have to make any adjustments when I sit down or stand up they just move with me.

Go see them, their customer service is on point and the denim will be a treat, promise. Plus you have my coupon code to use that will get you 20% off your purchase.

What are you waiting for?
