Making more lines, in a different way.

I have been inspired by Jack Davison’s editorial published in the New York Times.

Jack took inspiration from all of the remote contact he was having with the outside world and began to create portraits. He used the projections to make an image, based on the idea that maybe he will not be able to photograph a subject in person ever again.

I took that idea for my own and re-shot several of my favourite images. I projected them onto a plain white wall and made some basic 8x10 prints with a new to me Canon printer. Then I was further inspired to add the lines I created from the drawings to those prints. Because these are a collection of my favourite images I have drawn all of them. So back to the printer I went with some plain paper and got to work printing the drawings that matched the photographs. Then I got some glue, scissors, an Exacto knife and got to work.

I really like the result, its a messy process the first time out and I’m looking forward to refining it.

I have an official projector now, that arrived a few days ago. I am awaiting a cable to attach my phone so I can continue projecting and photographing those projections. I have also arranged two different shoots with my projector. I’m really excited to see how this is all going to come together.

I do hope we are able to work in person again soon, in the meantime thank you, Jack Davison, for the inspiration because I am really excited about the result.
