Merch, in the time of quarantine.

I just finished loading up my shop with new Merch!

I’m so excited to release this next phase of my collection. I lost my supplier and had to figure out a different way to transfer my drawings onto garments. Cherry Bomb, a local t-shirt shop who was able to take a digital file and create a thermal transfer on a cotton garment. So I would show up with an arm full of thrifted 100% cotton clothing and files of my drawings to match. Come back a couple of hours later and voila! The last time I went the guy who was so awesome in helping me told me they were closing. So I was kind of in shock and so grateful he told me. Away I went to explore different ways to transfer my hand-drawn continuous line drawings on to thrifted garments some other way.

I always create a digital file of my drawings, kind of like a record of them and also what I used to create my merch. I did a lot of research and reached out to my craftiest of friends and I found a solution!

There are these magic pens that you can use to draw on paper and then apply heat to transfer that drawing onto fabric. Voila! I tried a few at home with some parchment paper between the drawing and my iron and it worked out, although more research and heat was needed.

So I reached out to other friends, it truly does take a village. And I tried it on a heat press, you know that thing that applies heat in a nice even way, that is way hotter than your iron? Yeah, that one. I got some fabric samples made more drawings with these magic markers and headed over there to try. We had a blast trying different times and temperatures seeing that the variations actually caused variations in the colours of my drawings.

So now I have a stockpile of what I call patches, that can be sewn onto anything!

I regularly troll the discount bin at the thrift store and have found some really cool pieces to add these patches too.

I should tell you I have someone sewing for me, she is a student at Blanche MacDonald and has a dog named Taco and she’s incredible. She has been sewing for me for the past few months and I am so happy with the result. Hopefully, you will be too!

We are in isolation so I only have myself to photograph all of these fabulous pieces and I am no model but I did my best. Hopefully, you can just replace my head/body with your imagination and picture yourself in these new editions to my line.

Enjoy, stay safe and stay the fuck at home. Thank gawd for the internet!

Cheers
